The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament
“Jesus took them through the writings of Moses and all the prophets, explaining from all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” Luke 24:2 Wouldn’t you have loved to be part of that conversation with Jesus? As he walked with two of his followers on the road to Emmaus, what Scriptures did he point to and say, “This is about me”? Which events, symbols, and people did he identify as foreshadowing his life, death, and resurrection? The entire Old Testament tells a story that only finds its completion in Jesus Christ. In The One Year Book of Discovering Jesus in the Old Testament, Bible teacher Nancy Guthrie takes readers from Genesis through Malachi, shining the light on how the Old Testament points to Christ: he’s the offspring of Eve who put an end to the curse…

I read this devotional daily in 2019, and found a new favorite! The daily excerpts are short but poignant, always pointing to Jesus. The author brings out many ways that the Old Testament points to Jesus, and how Jesus fulfilled these OT prophecies regarding the Messiah, that I’d never noticed in my own. As I read, I added notes to my own bible so when I read the Old Testament, I now have more cross-references to Jesus in the New Testament. (I found many, many more than my own Bible had cross-referenced.) It was a book that helped me to worship God who has shaped history around His magnificent plan of redemption, starring Jesus Christ as the Hero, all for His glory. I highly recommend this book and plan to read it again myself in future. Scrockern
