We Believe, Creeds, Catechisms, and Confessions of Faith
Christians in every generation must know what they believe. Only then can God’s people declare His truth with clarity and conviction in a confused world.
Throughout the centuries, the church has written summaries of the Bible’s teaching for this reason. Creeds proclaim essential Christian truths, confessions outline the core doctrines of Scripture, and catechisms instruct believers in the knowledge of God. These are invaluable tools to keep us grounded in God’s Word so that we may “contend for the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 3).
Collecting creeds, confessions, and catechisms from the early church to the post-Reformation era, this volume helps readers glean biblical wisdom from the past and guard it for future generations.
This book contains twenty creeds, confessions, and catechisms spanning the history of the church:
Apostles’ Creed (Second Century)
Niceno-Constantinopolitan Creed (325/381)
Definition of Chalcedon (451)
Athanasian Creed (Fifth Century)

‘One of the very best publications to ever be offered by Ligonier is this massive one volume compilation of essential documents of the Reformed Christian Faith is We Believe. Not only Reformed Creeds, Catechisms, and Confessions are contained in We Believe, but also.the early Christian Creeds, the Definition of Chalcedon, the two most popular documents of the Lutheran Reformation, and the 39 Articles can be found within the covers of this book. The 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith has led to a resurgence of Particular or Reformed Baptist churches in recent decades, so that Baptist Confession is included as well. With just the Reformation Study Bible and We Believe, a single Christian, a Christian couple, or a Christian family would never run out of guidance for Bible Study. Scripture references are included for pretty much every document. I also recommend using the Family Worship Guide written by Joel Beeke for devotional family reading of chapters of the Bible, then following that topical study by working through the documents in we believe. An example for topical Bible Study would be to use The Heidelberg Catechism for a weekly topical study. For daily study, any of the documents could be used. For younger children, the Westminster Smaller Catechism would be a good place to start.’ Hamza Philip
