In the debate over the method of baptism, both sides - immersers and sprinklers - claim a meaning for the Greek to suit their case. Is the Greek really this elastic? This historic classic is unique, because it quotes or refers to every passage in which a representative baptizing word is found in classical Greek literature (pagan and Christian), including the Church Fathers, to show that it always means - to immerse (whether used literally or figuratively).

This is a very scholarly researched and documented book. It's conclusions are irrefutable to the unbiased mind. The author was a highly educated professor who served as Professor of Hebrew and Biblical Criticism at the Hamilton Literary and Theological Institution, Hamilton, New York (1835-1841).The author allows "the impartial witnesses of antiquity to speak directly to the readers." I treasure my copy of this very precious book. Pastor Herb Hatfield
