Sin is rebellion against God; it is a heart set on having its own way. Christians are not powerless to truly overcome an “addiction” if they have the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit to enable them to say ‘no’ to choices that will mentally enslave them. This book makes the distinction between what the world terms a “disease” and what Scripture demonstrates is a life-dominating sin nature problem. Here you will find biblical tools to help you examine your heart’s motives at the root of the “addiction.” The Heart of Addiction is being heralded as the leading, practical book on addictions from a biblical perspective today.

...I think this is a wonderful book that all Christians will benefit from but there are two groups in particular that will likely obtain the most benefit: those who struggle with life-dominating sinful addictions and biblical counselors (whether lay or professional). In said groups, this is likely a book that you will refer back to again and again. Furthermore, this book makes a great resource to use in nouthetic counseling sessions itself as a homework assignment and/or a walkthrough text for the counselee. If for nothing else, the text is chock full of simple, practical biblical tools to help those who are in desperate need of Christ (this includes a prayer of application at the end of each chapter and appendices that will facilitate the counselee to apply the principles to their everyday life).
