As Christian parents we are called to faithfully train up our children in the love and discipline of the Lord. But what happens when our children grow into adulthood and make a conscious decision to live an opposite way from God’s instructions given through their mom and dad? All too often, when this happens parents begin to believe they have failed God and their child. It can negatively impact relationships throughout the family. What parents fail to realize in their heartbroken state is that they are not responsible for the decisions and actions of their prodigal. Out of her own disappointment, Shirley Elliott helps you to peer into your own heart, and through the power of Jesus Christ find hope for the future. Brad Bigney, who wrote the Foreword for this book describes biblical hope as “. . . a confident expectation of a future blessing based on the character and promises of God that are centered around the person and work of Jesus Christ.” We pray you will find that confident expectation here.

‘Using the Scripture with rare and impressive skill, the author helps you learn to think correctly about the situation, helps you to move forward, helps you to deal with those strong and unruly emotions that accompany this path. She shows you the way forward and guides you into how to pray for your child. She points out that it is the work of the Holy Spirit to draw our wayward children to God. It is not our work as parents to make our children believers. We can't do that. She helps guide the reader into making our hearts and minds be the heart and mind of Jesus. She helps us learn to live a winsome and godly life that attracts. She shows us how this will be a season of growth for us and gives us hope that God is working in our lives and the life of our prodigal. The author helps us learn to let it go and with thanksgiving which is a hard thing to have as a parent of prodigals, pray about everything, Each chapter ends with a Bible study of verses to examine, questions to answer and passages to memorize. This book is very very very Scriptural. There is no wishful thinking, no empty promises, no glossing over truth. It turns the reader's focus to Jesus time and time again.’ Margie
