Al Martin’s ministry has had a profound impact on hundreds of faithful ministers and thousands of people for several decades, such that it is high time that a festschrift—that is, a book of essays reflecting his interests and passions written by friends—be written in his honor. In addition to a foreword by Joel Beeke and a sermon by the Puritan John Gill (1697–1771), this book includes essays from, to name just a few, : Sam Waldron , Conrad Mbewe, Richard Barcellos, Jim Savastio, Michael Haykin, Jeff Waddington and more! Here you will find a book that honors a veteran minister and teacher of the Word by exhorting other ministers to preach the Word, shepherd the flock, do the work of an evangelist, and fulfill the commission placed upon them by the Lord. May God use the contributions of these authors to raise up preachers who fit the words of Francis Wayland (1796–1865): “From the manner in which our ministers have entered upon the work, it is evident that it must have been the prominent object of their lives to convert men to God.”

‘Like many others, I have greatly benefited from Pastor Martin’s ministry, especially from his lectures and sermons. In fact, even today I still use his excellent four-part series on marriage for couples with whom I do premarital counseling. And I always get good feedback from the couple I counsel regarding Al Martin’s unique gift to communicate God’s truths in a clear and practical way. He gave this series probably about forty years ago, but it is still relevant today. I also appreciate his approachableness. When I needed his advice, he did not hesitate to help. I’m glad David and Rob have coedited this book as a tribute for the man whose ministry has been a blessing to me… Although I don’t agree with every teaching contained in the book (such as the Baptists’ view of baptism and their application of the Reformed principle of worship to church polity), I highly recommend this work, especially to pastors and seminary students.’ Brian Najapfour.
